The Asset’s Resurgence Continues in Gibraltar!
Paul Nicholson continued his resurgence in World darts with an impressive run to the semi-finals of the Gibraltar Darts Trophy.
The former Players Championship winner had been struggling in recent years with form and injury problems, including having to reclaim his PDC Tour Card in 2017 at Q-School.
The Asset has been working extremely hard behind the scenes to bring his game back to where it should be and performing back at the highest level.
In Gibraltar the fruits of Paul’s labour were clear for all to see as he dispatched some of the PDC’s top talents in the form of Dave Chisnall, Joe Cullen and Gerwyn Price. The “Aussie Geordie” was then edged out 7-6 by Adrian Lewis in an epic encounter.
Nicholson showed tremendous fight to hit back-to-back ton-plus finishes to bring the game into a deciding leg and narrowly fell short to an impressive Lewis.
Michael van Gerwen then clinched his 25th European Tour title at the Victoria Stadium as he blew Lewis away with a 108.13 average to win 8-3 in the final.
Nicholson is keen to not get carried away however, as his focus now fully turns to the next tournament.
The Asset posted on Twitter “So many people to thank today for supporting me. I’ve got amazing peers, friends and opponents in this game and I’m just enjoying being in the mix right now.
“No time to get carried away though, as Wigan beckons this Friday.
The next stop for the PDC ProTour is Wigan for the next round of European Tour qualifiers as well as Players Championships 13 and 14.
