Unterbuchner causes upset over McGeeney - BDO World Trophy Day Four Results

German Michael Unterbuchner earned revenge over Mark McGeeney with a 6-5 win yesterday afternoon. Unterbuchner was defeated by the Englishman in last year’s Lakeside World Championships but proved too strong this time round with finishes of 121 and 133.

England Captain Scott Mitchell was also defeated in Preston as he was toppled by Kyle McKinstry 6-3. Both men were off-colour compared to their opening matches but McKinstry grew into the game a won with a 92.01 average. Reigning Champion Peter Machin also moved through in the afternoon session with a 6-5 win over Wesley “Sparky” Harms.

The other men’s clash of the afternoon session was an all-Scottish affair between Ryan Hogarth and Ross Montgomery. It was Ross the Boss who won that match-up, blowing Hogarth away with four 15 dart legs as well as 11 and 12 dart legs.

In the Ladies competition Fallon Sherrock pulled off the comeback of the round to overturn a 3-0 deficit over Maria O’Brien to win 4-3. Elsewhere Roz Bulmer continued her red-hot form as she whitewashed number 6 seed Sharon Prins 4-0.

In the evening session Glen Durrant defeated Tony O’Shea comfortably 6-1 whilst Duzza’s protégé defeated an impressive William Borland 6-2. Scott Baker also finds himself in the next round after he recorded a 6-4 win over Andy Baetens. Both men looked inseparable at 4-4 but Baker held is through to edge into a 5-4 lead and break Baetens through with a 14 dart leg for the match.

The final Men’s match of the evening ended in a 6-4 victory for Lithuania’s Darius Labanauskas over Welshman Richie Edwards. Darius will no face number 1 seed Glen Durrant in the next round.

There was another whitewash in the Ladies match between Winmau World Master Lorraine Winstanley as she brushed aside Anca Zijlstra. Anastasia then claimed the final Ladies semi-final spot with a 4-2 over Lakeside World Champion Lisa Ashton.

The World Darts Trophy continues with two sessions today. This afternoon’s session kicks off from 12.00pm and we conclude Final Day’s action with this evening’s session from 7.00pm.
