Baker and Waites set stage alight - BDO World Trophy Day Three Results
Two-time World Champion Scott Waites and Scott Baker put on the match of the night in an epic showdown that went the full 11 legs. It was Baker that edged the contest 6-5, hitting 5 maximums and an impressive 161 checkout for the victory.
The opening match-up between Andy Baetens and Justin Thompson was also a tight encounter which saw the Belgian come out the 6-4 winner. The two Ladies match-ups were in stark contrast as these first two fixtures. Lisa Ashton and Anastasia Dobromyslova whitewashed Corrine Hammond and Rhian O’Sullivan respectively, 4-0.
Welsh darting legend Martin Phillips became the latest seed to be knocked out in the first round as he was defeated 6-2 by Lithuania’s Darius Labanauskas. Both men were neck and neck at 2-2 before Labanauskas found another gear to win four legs on the bounce for the victory.
Number 1 seed Durrant mirrored Labanauskas’ result as he dispatched Dafydd Edwards to book his place in the next round against Tony O’Shea. “Silverback” O’Shea himself bested number 16 seed Jeffrey Sparidaans 6-1 in convincing fashion.
The other match-up of the evening saw Willem Mandigers knocked out by a pumped up Welshman in the form of Richie Edwards.
The World Darts Trophy continues with two sessions today. This afternoon’s session kicks off from 12.00pm and we conclude Day Four’s action with this evening’s session from 7.00pm.
