Bobby George, one of the sport’s biggest names and most recognisable faces, is to continue in his role as a Winmau Ambassador for a further three years, the company announced today.

‘King of Bling’ Bobby, who won the coveted News of the World Championship twice, as well as many other tournaments around the world, started playing competitive darts aged 30 and quickly made a name for himself during the sport’s golden years in the 70s and 80s. He won the first tournament he entered, represented his country and is the only player to have won the News of the World without dropping a single leg.

With his competitive career behind him, Bobby focused on the exhibition circuit and is as much in demand today as he ever has been thanks to his flamboyant stage presence and a never-ending supply of anecdotes, jokes and stories.

He has also become one of TV’s best-known and well-loved personalities. Bobby has featured in a host of popular programmes including The Real Marigold Hotel, Gone to Pot: American Road Trip and Celebrity Fit Club.

But darts remains Bobby’s biggest passion, alongside his family. He continues to travel up and down the country for exhibitions and to represent Winmau at events, tournaments and public appearances.

His intimate knowledge of the game also contributes to product development and innovation at Winmau, and his input has been invaluable in the development of new products and enhancements to existing ranges.

“Quite simply, Bobby is Mr. Darts,” says Winmau’s Sales and Marketing Director, Ian Flack. “He comes across on TV exactly as he is in real life – down to earth, honest and great company. But that hides an encyclopaedic knowledge and understanding of the game. Not only is Bobby a tremendous ambassador for Winmau, his input from a technical perspective is invaluable.”

Bobby added: “I’m a lucky boy. Darts has been good to me and is a massive part of my life. Like Winmau, I’ve been involved in almost every part of the evolution of the modern game from its explosion in popularity in the 70s through to the modern phenomenon it is today. I’m honoured to be part of the Winmau family and to be working with them to keep promoting our wonderful sport. May the darts be with you!”

Bobby’s darts are available from all good retailers and you can follow him on Twitter @BobbyGeorge180 for some insightful banter!
