![]() Winmau are the new supporters of the Essex Open Championship 2012 The Winmau Essex Open Championship 2012 will take place at Colchester United Football Club on the 26th of February 2012 and will be played exclusively on the Blade 4 dartboard. The Essex Open always receives a huge number of entrants, as it carries a good prize fund, is BDO ranked and is promoted in partnership with Colchester United F.C. at The Weston Homes Community Stadium (which is one of the UK’s most modern darts venues). The 2011 event did not disappoint as, after eight hours of darts involving over 300 players, the tournament ended up being decided on one leg of darts, and was won by England International Steve Douglas. The men and women go head-to-head in a best of 5 legs 501, straight start and double finish. The youth event was contested by over 70 players last year and the format this year will be the best of 3 legs 501, straight start, double finish. There are also senior and junior Grand Prix points on offer. The tournament carries a very special bonus – the winners will qualify to represent the county in the 2012 Winmau World Masters and the Lakeside World Championships Qualifiers. John Weller of Essex County Darts commented “The Essex Open has gone from strength to strength and, with Winmau’s support, we know that the future of the tournament looks very bright indeed! Colchester United have been extremely supportive and the venue is one of the finest in world darts”.
